The Satanic Panic is the coined term for a period in the United States, beginning in the 1980s and peaking in the 1990s, in which there was a moral panic amongst society about Satanic ritualistic abuse and the rise of Satanism. There were over 12,000 documented and reported accusations in the United States, yet not one was ever substantiated of any organized cult abuse. Was this an echo of social hysteria, or something else?
